(UPDATE: It is now called the Salish 475 as of 10 May, 2015! Click the link to see the completed boat!)
Call me crazy, but I just took delivery of another Star 45 Frame kit, as well as the Fin & Rudder kit and the Radio Tray kit!
Not sure when I'll start it (maybe next fall/winter) but just wanted to have them around for when I'm ready to start building.
IF I build a second one, I think that I'll make some modifications to it. Perhaps a forward raked transom or an open transom. Yes, I know that it will not be class legal, but since my current Star 45 is the only one in Seattle that I know of, it's not like I'll need it to be class legal anyway.
However, I may otherwise build an RC hydroplane. Thinking of the Slo-Mo-Shun V (U-37) in 1/7th scale. Thoughts?
Regardless, not much boat building will happen this summer, so if you don't see many posts for a long time you'll know why. Hopefully next fall I'll have figured out what my new winter build will be.
Peace!

Hi Steve,
ReplyDeleteI've read your Star 45 blog recently and it's great.
I'm planning to build up my own Star 45 but it wouldn't be 45" but only 45 cm. What do you think?
Perhaps I've missed it but I would see more information about how did you placed the servo and other things into your Star and T37.
Gabor
Thanks Gabor! You will need to make some changes in order to make the Star 45 down to 45cm. For starters you'd have to make your own frames because the normal laser-cut frames that I purchase are for a 45" boat. Using the normal frames would make the boat look a bit odd... compressed. So to keep the looks you'll need to shrink the plans somehow.
ReplyDeletePlacement of the servos depends on if you are using the RMG radio tray along with an RMG sailwinch. If you are not then you can place your servos anywhere you can fit them it. There really aren't any rules on servo placement so wherever they'll work for your build is fine according to the class rules.
Good luck!
Steve
