Links to some useful Star 45 Class Sailboat websites:
AMYA: American Model Yachting Association. Also see their Star 45 Class page and their Gallery page.
Star 45 Class Rules PDF: This is the latest version I can find. If you know of an updated version please let me know.
Star 45 Yahoo Group: Loads of great pictures and other information. Worth joining even though Yahoo Groups are notorious for logging you off and not working correctly.
Ken Bauser pictures: Ken must clearly be the best Star 45 builder out there! This is his Flickr page but there are some other pictures of boats he's built on the Yahoo Group page.
How to build a Star 45 blog: This is another blog by people who are really into the Star 45. Loads of good info but randomly organized. You have to really sort through it, but if you do you'll find loads of good stuff!
Website on some rigging ideas: This is an EC12 ("East Coast 12-meter") RC site that gives some good ideas for how to make the standing rigging.
Star 45 Parts Suppliers:
Stevens AeroModel: They produce the laser-cut frames for the Star 45. They also make the keel and rudder kit (you should get it) as well as the Radio Tray kit (you should get it if you plan to use the RMG SmartWinch as your winch).
Midwest Model Yachting: Suppliers of many rigging parts. You can buy an entire Star 45 rig kit (recommended) or piece stuff together. They also sell blocks and other rigging and deck hardware.
Long Beach RC: A small inventory but quality stuff. Their inventory seems to shift too, so if you see something on their website that you like you should buy it now because it may be sold out or unavailable shortly. Nice website.
ACP Composites: They sell very light weight fiberglass cloth. I'm using 1.4 oz. cloth but they sell even lighter stuff. Quick shipping too. Nice company!
I also highly encourage everyone to frequent their local hobby store! Yes, the prices might be higher, but you get your products right then and can take them home. Plus you get loads of advice. You can also look around and find things that you can use that perhaps you didn't even know were an option. Sadly there are few hobby shops open any more. The closest one to me in Seattle is Galaxy Hobby in Lynnwood. Nice store with very good selection. And they carry 48" x 12" x 1/16" (and 1/32" and even thinner) plywood!
Please feel free to send any other useful Star 45 links.
Happy sailing!
